The subjects of the study were people with affiliations to universities, including business school students, university alumni, etc., so properly people who have had sufficient exposure to wine. While I certainly don't have as refined of a palette as others, I'm probably representative of the average wine drinker. And I definitely don't taste flavors like tennis balls, socks or asphalt in my wine. And how much does a wine, particularly a red wine, really smell or taste of such fragrant fruits like strawberries? And do cherries really have a smell that you can match it in your wine?
