One thing that came up in a few presentations was this idea of "publicity" and the public image of wineries/ the wine industry
This, combined with the issue we identified in Fredericksburg of the cost of living not matching the wages able to be offered in wine towns, made me wonder if this is another industry that is facing/ will face the same issue the tech industry has been facing here in SF in that the growth of the industry is making it so people can no longer afford to live where they work.
The technology industry has been cast as an 'evil doer' in many ways recently for this issue, and the hot topic is what they, or the government should do to combat the displacement. I wonder how much (and certainly to a lesser extent) the wine industry/ new wine regions and wineries will face this pushback and whether anticipating the problem earlier could help.
