Vino Volo is truly a gift granted to wine lovers and travelers alike. With more than 25 locations in airports across the U.S., including our own John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Vino Volo is the perfect wine retreat.

Though Vino Volo is a retail shop as well, it artfully presents its menu of 24 or more wines in groupings of three, so you can choose by the glass or groupings to experience as a flight. With names like Vibrant Rioja, California Kings, the Art of Riesling, and Sommelier Series, there are wines to fulfill every palate or better yet, to get you exploring beyond your normal pour.
chicken breast salad vino volo john wayneWhile traveling back to Orange County recently, I ventured into a Vino Volo with my kids in tow. Traveling with children requires copious amounts of wine or at least one peaceful moment with a good glass. We were amazed at how swift and helpful the service was. Our server happily offered to “kidify” the menu by making the Truffle Penne and Cheese sans truffle oil and for the Bratwurst to not be paired with its usual sauerkraut. With kids happy, I perused the wine menu and landed on “Pretty in Pink,” a flight of three rose wines, priced at $15, which paired nicely with my roasted chicken breast salad. The flight is presented on a long tray with a paper under each wine sharing the details of the wine’s origin, grape, vintage, and where it lands on Vino Volo’s descriptive square of “bright, rich, light, and brooding.” My flight consisted of a St. Supery 2015 Bordeaux Blend Rose from Napa Valley, a Gratien & Meyer Brut-Rose non-vintage, and a Bodegas Ontanon 2014 Garnacha Rose. My favorite was the brut rose. It was bright, bubbly, fresh with an essence of summer strawberries and a light, creamy finish. Though the St. Supery and the Bodegas Ontanon were lovely, the Gratien & Meyer sparkling wine was delicious and perfect to toast with in honor of our summer travels.
