As the only (I think) non-GSBer in the class, let me first introduce myself. I'm a 3L at the law school and will be working at Davis Polk in either Menlo Park or London post-grad, focusing mainly on capital markets. More pertinent to our class, my post-firm dream job is do in-house legal work for any number of players in the wine industry.
Given my background, it will, I'm sure, surprise no one to learn that I'm taking the course primarily to explore the legal / regulatory dynamics of the wine industry, both in the US and globally. ABC law is a pretty complex area on its own; the wine industry also implicates property, IP, VC, trade, contract, and environmental law, making it arguably one of the most complicated legal landscapes in the US. I haven't a clue what the international regulatory regime looks like, but hope to find out soon. All of that said, I'm also looking forward to talking about something other than law for the majority of our class ...
On a more personal note, I've been drinking wine since I was 12, and appreciating it since I was 22. My dad has a solid collection going, and has taught me everything I know (which, admittedly, isn't all that much). I'm looking forward to becoming a bit more knowledgeable about one of my resume interests.
As an endnote, I just got back from Croatia and Hungary. What was supposed to be road trip through Hungary and along the Croatian coast turned into a tour-de-wine. If anyone's looking for a few reccos, I'm happy to provide.
Tierney: Get ready to be cold called next week as we dive deeply into the regulatory dynamics! Given your recent travels, I might recommend that you focus on Croatia and/or Hungary for your midterm.
