Class Motivations

I find the wine industry interesting because it appears to be a blend of the commercial and the artistic. Unlike many industries that have undergone perpetual optimization towards a few metrics or quality standards, the wine industry is actually increasing in diversity of products and offerings. I think in many ways, an obsession with profits and metrics can ruin what originally made a product special and emotionally engaging to the consumer (I'm especially upset to see this happen in the automotive industry). The industry dynamics seem to be very interesting for a product that does not really have an objective measure of quality or performance. I also like drinking wine and don't know much about it at all.
