Make China great again
Okay so I'm not nearly as nationalistic as the title of the entry sounds. But in all seriousness, China is still not known for either having good taste in wine or making excellent wine. For example, it's barely the first reading of this class and I'm already learning about counterfeit icewine in China and how easily customers are fooled by knock-offs.
I also just like wine in general. I've been fortunate enough to live in a few different places with great wine, including France, Spain, New York and California. And in my senior year in college, I took a wine tasting class which was a short but systematic overview of the wines in the world (though retention of that knowledge is sadly limited and impacted by high levels of intoxication during the class).
Now with this class, I'm hoping to think about the wine industry more holistically and evaluate critically what opportunities there are to revolutionize the business model. In particular, having studied Spanish and French at various points in the past, I'm hopeful that there are opportunities between China and the US, South America, France, Spain, etc. And this course will help me better pinpoint what those opportunities might be.
