Wine in the White House: Does Obama or Trump have better wine taste?

If you visit top wineries across California, you'll see the framed menu cards of the various White House lunches and dinners where their wines were served.

As Obama's time in the White House comes to a close and Trump enters the White House, I wanted to compare the wines offered by our outgoing and incoming presidents!  I would prefer the wine list from Obama (not to mention the delicious Italian feast Mario Batali prepared alongside it!).

Trump Inaugural Lunch

  • J Lohr Arroyo Vista Chardonnay, 2013
  • Delicato Black Stallion Limited Release Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, 2012
  • Korbel Natural "Special Inaugural CuvĂ©e" California, NV
Obama's Final State Dinner (for the Italian Prime Minister)
  • Palmina Wines Santa Ynez Vermentino, 2015
  • Villa Regazzi Napa San Giovese, 2012
  • Ridge Vineyards East Beach Zinfandel  2014
Prior to the Kennedy era, old world wines were typically served in the White House.  Now it is customary to serve primarily U.S. wines as demonstrated by these two wine selections.  This reminds us of how far wines from the US have come in a relatively short period of time.

  1. Jasmine, The most noteworthy difference between the wine lists that you shared is the (vast) scale of the American producers Trump will be featuring tomorrow in contrast with the garagiste, boutique, and/or family owned brands featured by Obama (here and often throughout his Administration).
