Interest in Dynamics of the Global Wine Industry

As a consumer: Wine has always frustrated me. I enjoy drinking it and certainly have preferences for specific varietals and vineyards/wineries, but I’ve never been able to articulate those tastes or really understand my own preferences. I have strong opinions on and am (perhaps irrationally) confident in my opinion of food, beer, and even bottled water – but not wine. I hope to change that through an appreciation of the process it takes to produce wine from start to finish and a deeper understanding of the finished product.

In a business sense: I enjoy learning about new industries and am fascinated already by the wine industry. It is a large, global industry with a complex regulatory environment and supply/demand characteristics that can defy the norm. I hope to better understand the dynamics of the industry and how they might relate to other industries that are shaped by similar forces.
