I grew up in a family that simply loves wine. My dad has always been the leader of that charge: he took a wine class in law school and fell in love. Wine has always been a part of our family gatherings, and I wanted to take this class primarily to be able to keep up with the conversation. I know just enough to be dangerous, and I've wanted for a long time to expand on that base of knowledge.

I also had the chance to dive deep on the challenges of distribution from a producer's perspective in several conversations I had in August with people who either owned or worked at different wineries up in Napa and Sonoma. Especially given my strong interest in public policy, this industry provides an interesting lens in which to view the role of the government and regulation in supporting or constraining business. I particularly want to understand how producers, distributors, and retailers interact with and influence legislation that affects them to see whether there are any opportunities to innovate in the way that those regulations are formed.
