You Had Me At Merlot

I produced television shows prior to the GSB, and what I loved most about that career was that we were creating a shared experience or thread between people. If at a loss for conversation with a stranger, a friend, a colleague, in-law, or really anyone, referencing last week's episode of Saturday Night Live, or a story you saw on 60 Minutes could be a way to break the ice, build commonality, or spark conversation. In many ways, wine offers the potential for a similar connection - especially in the business world - if one is well-versed in it. I look forward not only to becoming more informed about what I am experiencing when I drink wine, but also conversational about the various processes and dynamics that go into its production, marketing, distribution and consumption. As a capstone course, this is also the perfect way to test and refresh on concepts from last year and ensure that I can apply them to an industry.

Further, because no blog post is complete without some terrible humor, it is my hope that after this class, I will make fewer "pour decisions" (cringe) in my own purchasing process - whether ordering wine at a business dinner, or adding to my own collection of Trader Joe's finest.
